David Royles is the main face and founder of Out&Back Offroad. Growing up, like most young boy’s he chased adventure. Whether it was exploring his own backyard or riding his bike down the road to explore the many farm’s and creek lines, it was like an addiction to the unknown. He was fascinated by the bush, taking every opportunity he could to be amongst it. When he turned 17 he joined the Army as an ASLAV Crewman, learning to drive 8 Wheel drive off-road machines led him to another passion, off-road driving. In 2010, he was deployed to Afghanistan, driving through some of the most rugged and remote tracks in the world, not to mention the most dangerous. Upon his return, he purchased his first 4wd, a 2003 GU Patrol 3.0L Wagon. It wasn’t long before he spent every moment he had spare driving it through tracks in South East Queensland and every spare dollar modifying it. With this vehicle, he has been able to explore many of Australia’s must-see bucket list destination’s including the Simpson Desert, Cape York, The NT Gulf and the Kimberley.
Jenn Smith, David’s navigator and now the driver of the newly acquired Patrol Ute. Jenn has always been around 4wd’s and the outdoors from a young age. Joining David on the Northern Adventure trip, she forms a key part of the Out&Back team, taking photos and assisting with camera’s. Not to mention getting stuck in to the driving off-road! Jenn’s love of Australia’s remote lands has grown and she is now heavily involved with the planning of the 2018 trip back to The NT Gulf.
