The Tarmac Junior Development Program began in 2010 as an incentive from the CAMS (SA) State Motor Racing Panel, modeled on the successful South Districts Car Club Junior Development Program and run by the South Australian Motor Racing Officials Association. In 2012 the Tarmac Junior Development Program Association of South Australia was formed and become independent of SAMROA.
Now that we are an association, we are able to issue CAMS Club memberships and CAMS competition licenses. This benefits any past JDP participates or current volunteers in maintaining their CAMS Club membership and CAMS competition license, plus all membership fees go directly back into the program to assist in vehicle maintenance and upgrades.
Tarmac JDP Assoc of SA is a volunteer organization and it’s members donate their time for the benefit of motor sport.
Tarmac JDP Assoc of SA is affiliated with Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) which is the peak sanctioning body for motor sport in Australia.
Our ultimate goal is to increase the number of people involved in motorsport either as competitors or officials.
Motorsport is an activity the whole family can participant in and can be a remover of the generation gap where parents & children can be involved with the same interest and grow & evolve together on and off the racing track. We now have participants and their parents regularly competing in the Modern Regularity events at Mallala. At past Modern Regularity events, past participants, their parents and driver trainers make up third of the total entries. The club also provide loan cars for current and past participants. We are now actively encouraging participation in Hillclimbs at Collingrove.
We believe that letting young drivers develop an ability to cope with a motor car prior to the civil driving licence age make them a better and safer public road user. If the only thing the participants take away from the JDP is a positive attitude towards driving and that there is a safe and controlled environment if they want to drive fast, and it is not our public roads, we are happy. I don’t know how to measure the positive effect the JDP has on reducing road trauma.
